About the artist
Stuart Roper was brought up in Scotland and is now based in Oxfordshire. He first began to use watercolour and gouache as a means of visualising and illustrating concepts, while studying design in Aberdeen. During his early years as a commercial illustrator he exhibited at a number of joint shows in Scotland. Since moving south he has worked with a group of artists, exhibiting occasionally as a group, and has also held several successful solo exhibitions.
A love of drawing shows through in all his work, from charming sketches of animals to large nudes executed in charcoal and oils. His distinctive technique, using pen and watercolour, enables him to catch the essence of his subject in a few simple lines and bold brush strokes.
Stuart’s work covers an eclectic mix of subjects from everyday objects to exotic nudes and landscapes.
He is a member of the Association of Illustrators.
